Score:
The idea behind my score was to assign certain people on my floor random sounds. Then secretly document their movement in and out of the lounge. Over a two hour time period, nine different people spent time in our floor lounge. Each of them represents a different line. If they came into the lounge stayed for a bit and left, that created on sound. Most of them came in multiple times which lead to the repetition of sounds. In my score, one segment represents 5 seconds in the musical composition which actually represents 5 minutes in real time. It can be read from left to right while listening to the composition.

John Cage Article Response:

John Cage and experimental composers expanded the conventional idea of music to include various types of sounds and performances. Being that music is an artform, all types of music is worth making. It allows the individual artist time to express their feelings and ideas in an explorative manner. Whether or not we enjoy their work is not essential, but we should appreciate it. Like paintings and scupltures, music can erupt controversy but that is the beauty in expression.

Artificial Assemblage

My musical instrument was a found object: Colored Pencil Container. I was intrigued by the various components of the object including the metal casing, plastic trays and the colored pencils themselves. I thought that using different combinations of these parts would make interesting sounds.

Re-Edited Commercial

My original commercial was called "Jone's Big Ass Truck Rental and Storage Facility". The type of advertisement is known as "tell it" or a testimonial. The narrator of the commercial was the man who owns the company. He is trying to sell his storage facility.




There was a lot of words to work with, so I tried to make a video with a new meaning. I used his emphasis of "Big Ass" "drunk", and "weed" to make him appear like he is trying to get a girl.



The dialogue of the new edited commercial is :

Do you know how big a BIG ASS is?
You got a Big Ass, I got space.
Bring it down here to my house.
You can rent a truck you can store a car. It don't care bring it down here.
You got weed, and I'll do anything you want.
The fact of the matter is, I'm pretty drunk right now.
